At the beginning of 2018, the carbon capture test platform project of the CR Haifeng Power Plant started. This platform, which is built based on No.1 units of the CR Haifeng Power Plant and consists of the flue gas pretreatment system, the carbon capture system based on the amine absorption method and the membrane separation method, the compression and purification system, and the supporting auxiliary systems such as electrical and thermal control systems, is the first multi-threaded international carbon capture test platform for coal-fired power plants in Asia.
After the completion, this platform can capture about 20,000 tons of carbon dioxide every year, which, after purification, can meet the needs for industrial use such as food processing and will be used for the first domestic carbon dioxide offshore storage safety and leakage monitoring research project. This will make positive contributions to the promotion of national ecological civilization construction and the response to climate change.
This is one of the efforts made by CR Power to cope with global climate change by using new technologies.
The carbon dioxide produced by fossil energy accounts for 57% of global greenhouse gas emissions and is the main cause of climate change, having brought severe challenges to human survival and development. The global carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technology is currently the only important technology to achieve large-scale greenhouse gas emission reductions on the premise that fossil fuels are continuously allowed to be used.
As a large power generation company, in addition to using new technologies such as carbon capture, CR Power pays attention to compressing the emissions of carbon, sulfur and other materials from the source, and continues to carry out ultra-low emission transformation in desulfurization, denitration and dust removal. This requires not only capital investment but also creative development ideas sometimes.
For example, the CR Power sludge coupling power generation project.
With the rapid development of urban economy, the population continues to increase, and the problems on the handling and disposal of urban sludge have become increasingly prominent. Planning from a strategic level, CR Power, based on its own advantages, seeks to provide the society with more services. Through the use of coal-fired boilers, CR Power implements the urban sludge drying and blending project, solves the pain points of urban development, and transforms into a green integrated energy service provider, to create social, economic and environmental benefits. In 2018, 13 power plants under CR Power including the Guangdong Haifeng Plant, the Guangzhou Thermal Power Plant, the Jiangsu Changshu Plant, the plant in the Nanjing Chemical Park, and the plant in Henan Ancient City participated in the municipal sludge and waste incineration process and accumulatively incinerated a total of 403,000 tons of sludge, which effectively cracked the social environment governance difficulty in sludge siege, and promoted the coordinated development of regional economy and ecological protection.
In recent years, environmental protection has attracted increasing attention from policies and the public. CR Power, in strict accordance with the relevant provisions of the Environmental Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, the Law of the People's Republic of China on Environmental Protection Tax, the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Atmospheric Pollution and the Air Pollutant Emission Standards of Thermal Power Plants, deeply explores the potential in energy conservation and consumption reduction, promotes energy conservation and emission reduction by green operation, promotes the development of circular economy, and is committed to building a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system.
In 2018, CR Power invested a total of RMB1.283 billion in energy conservation and emission reduction technology transformation. The standard coal consumption for power supply was 299.54 g/kWh. The total amount of carbon dioxide emissions from thermal power generation was 133.308 million tons. As of the end of 2018, a total of 24,443 MW units under CR Power had completed ultra-low emission installations, with about 98% of the installed capacity of affiliated coal-fired power plants, further reducing sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and dust emissions.
CR Power's innovative exploration and application of energy conservation and emission reduction technologies also leads and promotes the development of the industry. On April 25, 2019, the 168-hour full-load trial operation of the # 3 units in phase II project of Caofeidian Power Plant of CR Power was completed successfully, marking the smooth start-up of the coal-fired power units with the world's lowest-designed energy consumption, updating the global industrial data, establishing a new benchmark for domestic 1,000 MW units, and playing a model role for newly-built thermal power units. On August 10, 2019, the high-temperature subcritical comprehensive upgrade and transformation project for # 3 units of the CR Power Xuzhou Power Plant successfully passed a 168-hour full-load trial operation, creating the world's first case on the reduction in coal consumption of pure condensation subcritical units to the level of ultra-supercritical units, and playing a typical demonstration role in improving the power generation efficiency of subcritical units with huge national reserves.
Environmental pollution has gradually become the bottleneck of sustainable development of human society.CR Power, by making full use of its own advantages, strives to make the development of clean energy and the promotion of a circular economy a new engine for the green development of the society, reduces the demand on the earth and the damage to the environment, and constantly explores the best distance between people and nature.
A system is the foundation for CR Power to guarantee energy conservation and emission reduction and maintain environmentally friendly growth.
To this end, CR Power has established an environmental management and institutional system and set up an EHS committee. Such committee is chaired by the company's president. The senior officers of CR Power and the general managers of different regions are the main members. They serve as a leadership body for decision-making of CR Power's EHS affairs, are responsible to the board of directors of CR Power, and escort the environment management system of CR Power.
